In 1946, Gaston Lapierre created a business of cycles in Dijon (Burgundy, France). This post-war period allows institutions Lapierre, as in the whole of the cycle industry, to experience a sustained growth.

 

 

Jacky Lapierre, son of Gaston Lapierre, takes over the management of the company in 1960.

 

In 1972, to cope with an overwhelming demand, a new factory Lapierre comes out of the ground to Dijon sud. A building devoted to the sale of spare parts and exhibition of bikes of the brand is open to the public.

Mark Lapierre then continues its growth and becomes a reference in the middle of the cycle, and more particularly among experts.

 

SUPREMACY IN MOUNTAIN BIKING

In the mid - 80's, Lapierre is one of the only French manufacturers to anticipate the phenomenon, mountain BIKING , and has positioned itself very quickly as a leader on this market. The teams Lapierre mountain BIKE monopolize almost all of the titles mountain BIKING since 1988, the date of the competition debut of the brand.

 

In January 1993, the group Accell Group (netherlands) is acquiring 33% of the units of Cycles Lapierre.

 

In 1996, the Cycles Lapierre decide to close definitively their partner, Accell Group, and assign all of their units. Gilles Lapierre, son of Jacky Lapierre, takes over the management of the company as CEO. Therefore, the company will witness an unprecedented growth.

 

CHAMPION OF FRANCE ROAD AMATEUR ELITE

The ATV came to maturity both as a sport as technical, Gilles Lapierre decided to try the same adventure on the road. This activity has always occupied a prominent place in the culture of the company and an ambitious action plan sees the light of day, in order to duplicate the success shown in mountain BIKING.

 

At the end of the 90s , a partnership agreement is signed between the club and amateur previous to the SCOD which becomes the SCOD Lapierre. This club climbs the ladder to access the division supreme, the DN1.

 

In 2000, the Cycles Lapierre become for the first time in their history, Champion of France amateur ELITE with Roman Mary.

 

THE REVOLUTION X-CONTROL

The year 2001 marks a major milestone for Cycles Lapierre. The brand launched its now famous mountain BIKE X-Controlequipped with the suspension system anti-pumping FPS. A technology that is still unmatched which gives rise to the ideal bike for Cross-Country, combining performance and comfort. Jerome Chiotti won the French Championships in Métabief, the same year on his X-Control, a first for a bike fully suspended.

 

 

 

THE MORE HIGH-LEVEL ROAD AND MOUNTAIN BIKE

In 2002, Lapierre signed a partnership agreement with the professional team Française des Jeux, opening the doors of the ELITE on the road and the media the Tour de France. The results follow very quickly, and Lapierre becomes for its first participation, the champion of France professional with Nicolas vogondy eventually caught and World Champion individual pursuit with Bradley McGee !

In 2018, Groupama joins the French team Games in the adventure. Lapierre is a partner of the team renomméé Team Cyclist Groupama - FDJ.

 

During the season 2003 Lapierre extends his field of action :

While a 3-year contract is signed with the talented and 10 times downhill world champion, Nicolas Vouilloz, a range of models oriented Freeride and downhill is designed to complement the mountain BIKE range existing.

In triathlon, the performance ofAudrey Cleau, supported by Lapierre, are exceptional with a title of vice-world champion in long distance and a victory at the prestigious Nice triathlon.

As for Sabrina Enaux, she becomes the Champion of France XC Marathon.

 

In 2004, Bradley McGee wears the pink jersey of the Giro during several stages after winning the prologue.

Jean-Christophe Péraud finished the MTB World Cup Cross Country in fourth position. He is selected for the Olympic Games, where he finished eleventh.

In DH, Yoann Barelli has won the title of Champion of France Elite.

That same year, in partnership with the manufacturer of textile equipment and outdoor Lafuma, Lapierre sells " Lapierre by Lafuma ", its first range of textiles and luggage techniques for the practice of cycling.

 

In 2005, the technology X-Control is optimized with the launch of FPS2.

Lapierre is growing strongly in export markets, with the opening of offices in the United States, Canada, and Spain. Lapierre becomes the partner of the Roc d'azur, the largest event of mountain BIKING in the world.

Francis Mourey wins its first title of champion of France of Cyclo-cross on Lapierre, the beginning of a long series.

A NEW CYCLE, OPEN TO THE WORLD

In 2006, Lapierre celebrates 60 years of innovation and launches for the occasion a mountain BIKE foldable travel, the Passport.

It is also the first manufacturer to offer a configurator on the internet (Lapierre Web Series), allowing enthusiasts to design their road bike to the map. The production Lapierre is still based in France, this allows you to deliver these road bikes are very high-end within 15 days at our retailers.

Nicolas Vouilloz, the champion of France Rally champion, made his return to racing mountain bikes and won the Megavalanche of the Alpe d'huez.

In 2008, after more than 2 years of development, Lapierre revolutionized its road range by launching its all-new monocoque frame carbon X-Lite II, a small jewel of technology and lightness.

A new department is created within the company in order to optimize the offer " Commuting ":
► Collaboration with JCDecaux and manufacturing of the famous models of self-service bicycles (Velib, velo'v, Bike, ...).
► New range of city bikes Sitandgo! and electric bikes Startandgo!, drawing on all the know-how Lapierre.

The team Lapierre powered by Saab Salomon made its official entrance on the international circuit of DH / Freeride Enduro. Alexis Vuillermoz becomes World Champion XC relay team

 

2009 : The Scots Danny Hart, who had joined the Team Lapierre Saab Salomon in 2008 alongside David Vasquez and Greg Doucendewins the World Cup DH Junior, won the bronze Medal at the World Championships DH Junior and finished 2nd of the Championship of England of DH.

 

Lapierre, who was producing 6 000 bicycles per year 50 years ago, now produces nearly 90 000 over three production sites, all based in France. Dijon remains more than ever the centre of technological development for all ranges of road and mountain BIKE and this is for all of the Accell group.

 

PERFORMANCE AND TECHNOLOGY

In 2010, Alexis Vuillermoz of Team Lapierre International becomes Champion of France of cross-country hopes.

 

2011 : in Dalby Forrest, Lapierre becomes the 1st brand to win a victory in the World Cup on a bike with 29 " wheels, with Pauline Ferrand-Prévot on the Lapierre ProRace 29. She then won 4 rounds of the World Cup in the suite.

Lapierre also presents the evolution of the suspension system OST with the arrival of’OST+ : A new game with a new curve ratio, offering a higher sensitivity and a better dynamic pedal.

This same year, Nicolas Vouilloz, 10 times world champion MTB downhill, joined to 100% the ranks of the R&D department Lapierre. He works with the engineers and product managers in the development of new models Lapierre, while still taking part in some competitions of mountain BIKE Enduro.

Next to the road, the brand celebrates its 10-year partnership with the professional team FDJ.fr.

September 2011 : Kick-off of the rugby World Cup at stade mythical Eden Park Auckland ! To celebrate this sporting event, Lapierre is associated with one of the players most emblematic of the middle, Eden Park, to create two urban bicycles in a limited edition of the image of the brand with the bow tie : the "Blue Bicycle" and " Bike-Pink ".

2012 : 5 years of development and refinement have been necessary to see the birth of the first damper driven by the electronic hands of the collaboration of the R&D department of Lapierre and of the american firm, Rock Shox. The e:i Shock is a suspension system composed of a shock absorber, controlled by accelerometers, and sensors that detect the shock and the terms of pedaling and transmit the information to the suspension allowing it to automatically adjust in a record time.

In competition, Lapierre won his 1st title of downhill world champion, with Loic Bruni, who won this year on his Lapierre DH World Cup and world championships of downhill mountain BIKING.

A good year also for the team FDJ.fr with 2 stage wins on the Tour de France: Thibaut Pinot (step 8) and Pierrick Fedrigo (step 15).

 

2013 : The firm dijonnaise introduces the concept Overvolt with 2 mountain bikes to Electric drive. The range Overvolt will not cease to grow in the coming years, making the pleasures of cycling accessible to all.

In competition, many podiums in World Cup downhill races are a culmination of a busy season for Team Lapierre Gravity Republic, consisting of Loris Vergier (winner of the Junior World Cup), Emmeline Ragot (2e of the World Cup Elite Women), Sam Blenkinsop (5e of the World Cup Elite Men and 4th at World championships) and Loic Bruni (4th World Cup Elite Men).

Also of note, the victory of Nicolas Vouilloz on the sleeve of the Enduro World Series in Val d'allos.

 

 

2014 : New year bonanza for the teams Lapierre. A few weeks after its official release, the new model Aircode climbs on the 3rd step of the podium of the Tour de France with Thibault Pinot, who also won the best young rider jersey. Of many victories for the team at clover throughout the season : Arthur Vichot won the final stage of Paris-Nice. Arnaud Démare and Nacer Bouhanni realize the doubled on the championship of France on Road. On the roads of the giro d'italia, Nacer Bouhanni won 3 stages and the red jersey of best sprinte as well as 2 stages on the Tour of Spain.

Thibaut Pinot TDF 2014

The Team Lapierre Gravity Republic he ends the season in 1st place in the UCI rankings "Gravity" by a team, with in its ranks Loic Bruni, Sam Blenkinsop, Emmeline Ragot and Loris Vergier. We will remember especially the 2 World Cup wins of Emmeline Ragot to the handlebar of the new Lapierre DH, and the supremacy of Loris Vergier in the category Juniors : The final wins the World Cup and the World championships.

In addition, Lapierre strengthens its offer of personalized bike making some mountain bikes available on the online configurator, Lapierre Ultimate (ex Web-series).

 

The year 2015 marks a turning point in the strategy of our company. Anticipating the advent of the electric bike, Lapierre expands its range Overvolt with EAB even more efficient and tailored to each practice, the VTTAE high-rise in urban cycling, passing by the road. In parallel, the Brigade Overvolt sees the light of day. Composed of Claude Vergier and Jean-Pierre Bruni, two competitors recognized, the Brigade is moving on to the competitions in enduro electric, which are more likely to see the light of day.

On the side of our professional teams, l’Equipe cycliste FDJ ends the season with 15 wins including the most beautiful, conquered by Thibaut Pinot at the summit of Alpe d'huez during the Tour de France. The rider of the Team cycliste FDJ also finished off the season at the 10e, place of the UCI World Tour ranking.

The Team Lapierre Gravity Republic, after a busy season and several podium finishes on the various legs of the World Cup DH wins the grail : the title of world champion in Elite Men with Loic Bruni.

Side enduro, our riders are not left out : Nicolas Vouilloz finished 5th in the overall standings of the EWS and Adrien Dailly, for its first year under the colors Lapierre, won this same competition in the category U21.

 

In addition to the development of electric bikes and the different innovations that have marked the year 2015, as the TDT (Trap Door Technology on our road bike Xelius SL, Lapierre is focusing its efforts on the customer and the quality of the products and services by obtaining the certification ISO 9001:2008 for its site previous in which are mounted the high-end bicycles of the brand.

 

1946-2016 : 70-year-old company Lapierre is renewed again and again. Shortly after the conquest of title of world champion in DH of 2015, the company withdraws from the competition DH, but announces at the same time the expansion of his teams MTB Enduro and VTTAE, with the arrival of 5 new drivers : Rae Morrisson, Chloe Gallean, Florian Golay, Maxime Folco and Thibaut Daprela.
